Created entirely from scanned 2D index card drawings, 4! (spoken as FOUR AND) is the product of my visit to a dance-centric gesture drawing event in April 2024. I created 50 individual gesture drawings (each one taking between 10 and 30 seconds) while observing a dancer in action, and afterwards I selected my 25 favorite cards for inclusion in this project. I then edited three different passes of this “dance sequence” using different pens in Procreate: one of the unedited scans, one with a digital pen overlay, and one with pen and colored body parts. The counting-off hand that opens the animation is a 12-card sequence of my own hand drawn from direct observation. Inspired by DRUMBA by Liz Goldberg.
